CAMPECHE, Mexico—The first and only residential offering in Mexico to bear the prestigious brand of golf great Jack Nicklaus was unveiled today in Campeche, with the introduction of “Golden Bear Residences.” The 2,000 residential units that make up the Golden Bear Residences will be situated along a new Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course, which serves as the centerpiece to Campeche Playa, Golf, Marina & Spa Resort, an oceanfront, eco-tourist complex on the Gulf Coast side of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula that is scheduled to open late summer 2008.

The Campeche Playa Golf Marina and Spa Resort will be located only 45 minutes by car south of the historic City of Campeche in Campeche State Mexico (or about one hour north of the City of Ciudad del Carmen in the same state). The resort will be surrounded by some of the most unspoiled areas of Mexico. It will include a 5 star hotel and marina along its 3 kilometers of beach front. The residences will be located along the beach, around the golf course and at the marina. The golf course will be one of the most spectacular courses in the Yucatan Peninsula designed by the Jack Nicklaus organization. There will be retail businesses to serve the residents and visitors alike as well as a health centre. From this resort visitors will be able to book tours to any and all the fabulous ancient Mayan archaeological sites in the state. Phase I is under construction and expected to be completed by the end of 2008 or early 2009.

Being an important area for the Hawksbill Turtle the resort developers will take care in their protection. Thousands of turtles come to spawn to these beaches every year. As part of the development there will be a research centre and a turtle museum to help preserve this magnificent species. The construction of the project has been planned in such a way as to fit with the natural environment with a special focus on the protection of the ecosystems in the area.
