Archaeological museum Lorca

The Archaeological Museum of Lorca is located in the oriental end of the city inside the Artistic Historical Group, in the area of the well-known city as The Reservoir, next to San Antonio's medieval door and among Sacred Domingo's convents and of the Mercedarios.

The house dedicated to Archaeological Museum is a sent anonymous work to build among final of the XVI century and principles of the XVII century. The cover was carried out following the Italian models that were making an exhibition during these years in the whole area levantina, worked in calcareous stone with two pilasters of compound order that flank the entrance on which prepares a doric frieze, where he/she rests a left fronton that picks up in its center the family heraldry, flanked by two human figures with the torsos feminine nudes and characterized "to the Turk". The sobriety of the inferior part of the facade, contrasts with the ornamental wealth of the superior area, where garlands, roleos, rosetas and mascarones, complete a decoration of singular personality inside the stony covers of the elegant houses of final of the rebirth in Murcia.

Next to the cover they characterize the facade of the Museum the windows with triangular fronton and dentículos and the cornice also of color ocher. They are of highlighting the latches of forge decorations with heads of dragons, the tower that finishes off the hole of the stairway by way of lucernario and the lathed wooden Baroque rail.
At the moment the building with 2200 surface m2 is configured by two areas, the old rehabilitated house and a new construction that it is annexed in the later part. He/she combines the recovery of a significant building as container, with a good definition of the spaces for exhibition and internal operation of the museum. This way, next to the two plants of permanent exhibition, they are in the semisótano, the specialized library, the restoration shop and the warehouses; in the first plant the offices, the files, the picture laboratory and the room of temporary exhibitions, while in the second plant an assembly hall polivalente is located. In the later part a patio is located whose external perimeter is defined by the old grate of the XIX century that there were before the facade and the entrance for the load and discharge.
