THE ALMANZORA

Almanzora Basin

The Almanzora basin further North, is a prosperous district thanks to the marble quarries, amongst other resources. It is a more densely populated area containing a wealth of beautiful villages.
In Olula we can feast our eyes on a parish church, constructed entirely from marble, and nearby is the bustling town of Macael the marble capital.
Further down towards the coast is the town of Albox .Growing rapidly, due mainly to the increase in Ex-Pats from U.K over the past three to four years.
Albox and its surrounding villages have become a focal point for U.K residents to settle.

Almazora Valley

The Almanzora valley offers some of the most spectacular views in the Almeria region.
The province of Almeria features widely varying landscapes and districts from the Valez lands with churches the size of cathedrals, such as La Encarnationin Velez Rubio, and not forgetting the mountain areas, such as Los Filabres.
The Tabernas desert presents landscapes to be seen nowhere else on the peninsular.The famous Mini Hollywood is located here where films like a Fist Full of Dollars were made.
The Wild West village has been perfectly preserved and is a major attraction putting on daily shows and mock gun fights. It also boasts an extensive zoo.

HUERCAL OVERA

Fiesta!

Huercal Overa surrounded by orchards and possessing remarkable buildings, offers plenty of interest to those interested in caving and Archeology.
During the summer months, which counts as about ten in this part of Spain, most villages and towns have their Fiesta’s, which can last from one to seven days.
Depending on the size of the town or village and the funds available, will reflect the amount of entertainment available. Be warned don’t go early, as most nights things do not start to get going much before eleven at night, and carry on to whenever they feel like going home which sometimes is as late/early as eight am!

One of the reasons siesta was invented, get a good afternoons sleep before the Fiesta starts, as if you live in the area a Fiesta is taking place, you will not be getting any sleep on those nights!!
